Today was not a fun day for me. We started at the Clinic for a couple hours waiting for Hunter to get medicine and I started the morning feeling great. As we sat at the clinic for longer and longer I started to feel worse and worse. Hunter came back on the bus and we headed to the official Equator. It was a whole attraction within itself, we had a guide and he took us through a series of activities that exemplified that you were indeed at the real Equator. The activities included, seeing which water was flowed out of a drain another either side of the equator line as well as on the equator line. We also got to try to balance an egg on a nail, I failed at that. And lastly, we tried to walk in a straight line and stay balanced with your eyes closed. It was so much more difficult I was very confused but its because there are more forces acting upon you. Throughout this time that we spent experiencing the activities I really did not feel well. I ended up going to the bathroom and getting sick. From this point on for the rest of the day I was so sick, I don’t know what happened or why it only affected me for the second half of the day, but it was an absolutely brutal second half of the day. We got to the Hotel in Mindo and I went straight to the room and didn’t leave my bed other than to get sick.
The hotel itself was awesome, it was called an eco-lodge. Basically, it was in the middle of the cloud forest and the rooms were like log cabin cottages, the property of the hotel had hiking trails through the forest, they had sugar water everywhere to promote the presence of all the different hummingbirds. Overall, they promoted the appreciation of the surrounding environment and it set a very intriguing setting. The whole time that I was sick in my room I was praying that I would be able to take on the next day which was our last real day in the country.
